Michel & Magno
Michel & Magno presents an intimate evening of French Baroque music, featuring Krista Low (Viole) and Matt Jones (Théorbe).
Formed following their collaboration on Chrissie Parrot’s Façade in 2023, Michel & Magno reflects a shared enthusiasm for early music and a deep commitment to historically informed performance.
The programme will be curated to suit the resonant and reflective acoustic of the Chapel at St George’s College, drawing on repertoire that highlights clarity of line, harmonic colour and ornamentation at the heart of Baroque expression.
Krista Low and Matt Jones are versatile performers whose work spans Baroque, contemporary and new music. Krista is a founding member of the Perth-based ensemble HIP Company performing on Cello and Viola da Gamba. Matt Jones is a specialist in Lutes, Guitars and Theorboes who has worked extensively across Europe (based in Berlin 2003-2019) with leading early music ensembles and festivals, and intensively as a researcher and mentor in lutes and Historically Informed Performance with colleagues in Europe and in Perth. "The experience Matt shared with me was paramount and is something that I still carry with me to this day." (Magnus Andersson, professional lutenist and teacher at the University of Arts, Leipzig)
Together, Krista and Matt bring stylistic insight, sensitivity and a shared love of early music. The programme will bring together the angelic music of Marin Marais for Viole and the intimate, flirty music of Robert de Visée for solo Théorbe, who were both musicians at Versailles and Paris c.1680 – 1720.
