FAQs
A bit more about us
-
A residential college is a place where university students live to complete their studies. However, St George’s is so much more than just a bed and a bathroom! We have a strong community spirit and opportunities to get involved in arts, academics, sport and leadership.
-
St George’s College was the first College to be established in Western Australia back in 1928 and officially opened to residents in 1931. Our castle is modelled in the collegiate Oxbridge style after a bequest from Sir Winthrop Hackett (the same person who established UWA). We are a co-ed college that works to provide a holistic approach to living on campus, enabling residents the independence to discover themselves within a supportive community.
-
St George’s houses 273 residents from all around Western Australia, interstate and abroad.
-
There are designated times when you are able to come to St George’s for a tour. You can sign up for Open Day tours here.
Our Rooms
-
Unfortunately, as a first year resident, you can’t choose your room. They are allocated for you based on the information provided in the application and the interview process. Returning residents are allocated a room on a preferential basis.
-
St George’s provides free washing and drying services on site! No need for tokens, all you need is your clothes and detergent.
-
All you need to do is keep your space tidy. Our housekeeping team come through once a week to vacuum and clean your room. Communal bathroom spaces are cleaned daily.
-
The College provides all you need to move in. Each room comes with a bed, wardrobe, desk and storage. You are allowed to bring decorations for your room as long as the fasteners don’t damage the walls. Sofas, bean bags etc. aren’t classified as decorations.
-
We will provide the fridge for you! Every room at College has a bar fridge. You are not allowed to bring your own fridge.
-
All first year rooms are king single beds. Double bedrooms are only available for returning residents who have given preference to those rooms.
-
In most cases, freshers will be sharing bathrooms. In Newby Wing, you are only sharing a bathroom with one other person. In all other cases you will be sharing multiple bathroom cubicles with 8-12 other people. The communal bathromms are cleaned daily by our Housekeeping team.
Meals and the Kitchen
-
Our amazing kitchen staff cater to all dietary requirements. Our expert chefs have the capability to provide quality meals within your needs. The dietary requirements will need to be submitted via the health form after accepting offers.
-
All meals are either eaten in the Elsey Room or the Hackett Dining Hall. Residents are not premitted to take food from the Servery outside of the Dining Hall. We pride ourselves our strong College community and shared meal times are a big part of that!
-
Of course! You will need to scan a QR code in the Servery and purchase a meal voucher. The cost of these vouchers varies from $10-$20, depending on whether it’s for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
-
You can do your own cooking and baking in the Rogerson Café. There are communal pots and pans for use.
Other
-
Guests can stay overnight, however you need to inform College Reception during office hours to make sure that, in case of emergency, we are aware. Addition beds can be purchased for overnight stays, also from Reception.

Due to limited parking space, the College provides bays on a priority basis. All residents are welcome to apply but the application is formatted to give residents that have a genuine need for their car to have access to a parking space first. Refer to the parking section in this link for more information.
-
Here at College, you are well supported. We offer free academic tutoring from peers to help you through your university courses. We also provide a Residential Assistant in each wing who are there to assist you and guide you to the right people. We also have a staffed Resident Support office where you can get personal or academic support.
-
We have 7 designated study rooms (as well as outdoor tables if you like a bit of sunshine!) and plenty of communal spaces to hang out and socialise with friends. Our College Clubrooms are fantastic for a hit of table tennis, watching a movie or grabbing some snacks from canteen. A full size billards table is located in the Reynolds Room.

Hang tight! In mid-January the welcome packs will be distributed, and all the instructions will be there.
