Resident Ensembles

The Newby Blues

Founded in 2012, The Newby Blues is the College’s long-standing men’s vocal ensemble. Over the years, the group has brought together students from across Perth’s university community through a shared enjoyment of vocal performance, humour and camaraderie.

The ensemble performs regularly at College events, community functions and informal performances, contributing to the strong culture of music and student leadership within St George’s College. While grounded in close harmony singing, the group is equally shaped by friendship, tradition and the social life of the College, with generations of residents contributing to its ongoing character and identity.

Mockingbirds

Originally formed in 2013, The Mockingbirds are the College’s women’s vocal ensemble. Their repertoire spans contemporary popular music, vocal arrangements and classic favourites, with a strong focus on collaborative performance and ensemble musicianship.

The ensemble performs throughout the year at College events and community gatherings, contributing to the vibrant cultural life of St George’s College. Alongside performance, the Mockingbirds provides residents with opportunities to develop confidence, creativity and lasting friendships through music in a supportive and welcoming environment.
