Meditations: Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri

  • St George's College Chapel 46 Mounts Bay Road Crawley, WA, 6009 Australia (map)

Paul Wright, one of Australia's finest violinists, is joined by double bass and Violone master Andrew Tait, the St George's College String Quartet, Chapel Choir, and Consort to present Buxtehude's masterpiece, Membra Jesu Nostri

Buxtehude had considerable influence on composers such as J S Bach and G F  Handel. Being a standout among Buxtehude's compositional oeuvre, this work of seven cantatas reflects on aspects of Christ on the cross. The music is characterised by its sense of warmth, purity, balance, and profound expressiveness.
