Grieg’s Sonatas
This concert presents the complete violin sonatas of Edvard Grieg, performed by Akiko Miyazawa (violin) and Tommy Seah (piano).
Written across more than two decades, the three sonatas trace Grieg’s artistic development and remain central works of the Romantic chamber music repertoire. From the freshness and vitality of the early First Sonata, through the distinctly Nordic character of the Second, to the broader scale and expressive maturity of the Third, the cycle offers a rich and varied portrait of Grieg’s musical voice when heard complete.
Akiko Miyazawa is a violinist with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Artistic Director of Cygnus Arioso and a highly regarded chamber musician, known for her clarity of tone and musical sensitivity. She is joined by Tommy Seah, an accomplished pianist recognised for his collaborative approach and thoughtful musicianship, with extensive experience in major violin and piano sonata repertoire. Together, Akiko and Tommy bring balance, insight and a shared commitment to chamber music to this complete performance of Grieg’s sonatas.
